This calculator estimates your conception date by working backwards from your due date or baby's birth date.
The Math Behind It
- From Due Date: Conception typically occurs about 266 days (38 weeks) before the due date. This is because due dates are calculated as 280 days from LMP, and ovulation/conception occurs ~14 days after LMP.
- From Birth Date: We subtract the actual gestation period. For a full-term baby (40 weeks), conception was ~266 days before birth.
Understanding the Results
- Conception Date: The most likely date fertilization occurred.
- Fertile Window: Sperm can survive 3-5 days, so intercourse during this window could have led to conception.
- LMP: Last Menstrual Period - the date doctors use to calculate pregnancy weeks.
