About the Room Layout Visualizer

This room layout visualizer helps you plan furniture arrangements before moving or buying new pieces. Enter your room dimensions, add furniture from common presets, and drag items to see different layouts. The top-down 2D view makes it easy to visualize spacing and traffic flow.

All furniture pieces use standard dimensions based on typical furniture sizes. For example, a queen bed is 5 feet wide by 6.5 feet long, a standard sofa is 3 feet deep by 7 feet long, and a dining table is 3 feet by 5 feet. The grid snapping feature helps align furniture neatly.

The floor space calculator shows what percentage of your room is occupied by furniture versus open space. This helps ensure you maintain adequate walking paths and don't overcrowd the room. Generally, aim to keep at least 40-50% of floor space free for comfortable movement.

Tips for Room Layout Planning

  • Traffic flow: Leave at least 2-3 feet of clear space for walkways between furniture pieces
  • Focal points: Arrange seating to face windows, fireplaces, or TVs as natural focal points
  • Balance: Distribute furniture evenly rather than clustering everything on one side
  • Function zones: Group furniture by activity - create distinct zones for sleeping, working, or relaxing
  • Scale: Ensure furniture size is proportional to room size - oversized pieces make small rooms cramped
