Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't my browser know my screen's PPI automatically?

Browsers report "CSS pixels" which are standardized units, not physical pixels. This abstraction helps websites look consistent across devices, but it means the browser can't tell you the actual physical size of anything on screen without calibration.

Will my calibration work on a different monitor?

No – each monitor has different pixel density. If you use multiple displays, you'll need to calibrate each one separately. Your calibration is saved per-browser.

How accurate is this ruler?

Accuracy depends on your calibration. If you carefully match the bar to your reference object, the ruler should be accurate to within 1-2%. For precise work, use physical measuring tools.

What's a good PPI for a monitor?

Standard desktop monitors range from 90-110 PPI. Retina/HiDPI displays are typically 200-300 PPI. Phone screens often exceed 400 PPI.
