How It Works
Nature Sounds
Rain, ocean, and wind are generated using filtered noise -- no audio files or downloads. Rain uses band-passed white noise. Ocean layers slow-cycling filtered noise to mimic wave surges. Wind uses low-pass filtered noise with gentle modulation.
Meditation Tones
Drone produces a deep, evolving harmonic hum from layered sine oscillators that slowly shift in pitch and volume. Singing bowls generate randomized bell-like tones at meditative intervals. Chimes play gentle high-pitched tones at random, like wind chimes.
Screen Wake Lock
The "Keep Screen On" option uses the Screen Wake Lock API (supported in Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsers). This prevents your device from dimming or locking the screen while sounds play overnight.
Tips for Better Sleep
- Layer 2-3 sounds: Combine a nature sound (rain/ocean) with a drone or bowls for depth.
- Keep volume low: Sleep sounds should be barely audible -- just enough to mask disturbances.
- Use the fade-out: A gradual fade helps your brain transition into deeper sleep.
- Experiment: Everyone responds differently. Brown-noise-like sounds (ocean, wind) tend to work best for most people.
- Set a timer: You may not need sound all night -- 45-90 minutes covers the time most people need to fall asleep.
